With another sweep this past weekend, the Pioneers are now 6-2-0 on the season and have started 2-0-0 in NCHC in-conference play. To go along with this, North Dakota was swept by Minnesota Duluth over the weekend — so the top of the rankings have completely changed.
In both the USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls, Denver rises one spot this week to No. 2. Duluth gains the No. 1 spot, while North Dakota falls to No. 3. There is no question that these NCHC teams are the three best teams in all of college hockey this year, and with that there is also no question that the NCHC is the best conference in college hockey.
While Denver is on a by this week, North Dakota will be playing on the road against No. 13 Minnesota. Then, next week the Pioneers travel to North Dakota to face off against their conference rivals in a matchup that everyone will have their eyes on.
Will Butcher named NCHC Defenseman of the Week
Senior defenseman Will Butcher wins the honors of NCHC Defenseman of the Week after scoring a goal in Friday night’s win and recording a career high three assists in Saturday’s win. It was a monster weekend against Western Michigan from Denver’s captain. This is the second time Butcher has received these honors this season, and seventh time in his college hockey career.
The Colorado Avalanche prospect has taken a step forward each and every year of his college career and surely looks like a player the Avs will look into signing this coming spring.
