After visiting Denver on Tuesday, Jamaal Charles has decided to stick around. The 30-year old running back has agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Broncos that could be worth up to $3.75 million according to reports.
It was reported on Monday that the Broncos were bringing him in for a visit on Tuesday and it appears everything checked out with Charles medically and he will be joining the team.
Charles was a third-round pick of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2008 and had spent his entire nine-year career there. Now, after injury troubles and the emergence of other young backs in Kansas City, Charles is hoping he has enough left in the tank for a legit run at a Super Bowl.
Denver was speculated to be going after some spark on offense going into draft weekend, and did pick up some depth at running back, wide receiver and kick/punt returner; but they also did not get one of their main targets and that was a game breakers like Christian McCaffrey at the running back position. Jamaal Charles could be the answer that John Elway was looking for, at least in the short term
Many people think that after a 9-7 season, the Broncos are in rebuilding mode. However, they still have one of the best defenses in the NFL, and as long as that is the case… the window is still open for a Super Bowl run any given year. Jamaal Charles gives a different dynamic to an offense that was very bland in 2016.
We’ll have more on Charles joining the Broncos as the offseason carries on. It’s likely that he will be introduced as a Bronco in some sort of press conference this week.
