Chad Kelly drafted by Broncos as Mr. Irrelevant

The former starting quarterback at Ole Miss slipped in the 2017 NFL Draft due to concerns over injuries and character questions, but the Broncos take him in a low risk spot.

The Denver Broncos owned the last pick of the 2017 NFL Draft, a pick that has always been nicknamed as the “Mr. Irrelevant” selection.

With that pick, the 253rd overall, the Broncos took quarterback Chad Kelly out of Ole Miss.

Kelly is the nephew of Hall of Fame and former Bills quarterback Jim Kelly. He is considered a skilled, NFL caliber prospect but he slipped in the draft because of injury and character concerns.

In November 2016, Kelly suffered a torn ACL and meniscus and recently had surgery on his wrist.

In 2014, he was arrested in Buffalo due to a fight at a bar.

It is a low risk move for the Broncos to add an extra quarterback with his potential in the 7th round, and he certainly is a more interesting name to have around than Austin Davis as the third string QB.
