Broncos draft tackle Garett Bolles out of Utah with 20th overall selection

Offensive tackle Garett Bolles from the University of Utah is now a Bronco after being selected by Denver with the 20th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

It’s been widely known that the Broncos have a need at the left tackle position, and Bolles should bring in some fight in what seems like it will be a stuff competition during camp at the position to protect either Trevor Siemian or Paxton Lynch’s blindside. Bolles, who will turn 25 year old in May, is listed at 6-foot, 5 inches, 290 pounds and has had quite an interesting path to this point.

He was never what you would call a “good kid” growing up, running into various legal issues and drug use, and was actually kicked out of his own house by his father multiple times. However, he has assured everyone that he is passed all of that and appears to be a man of good faith now. With his child in hands, Bolles took to the stage with poise a grace to meet NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and be introduced as the newest member of the Denver Broncos.

On the field, Garett Bolles is a grinder and fighter in the trenches. He is an elite athlete at the left tackle position who has the potential to be a high end starter in the NFL. After playing two years at Snow College, he joined the Utah Utes as a junior-college recruit and started all 13 games at left tackle for the Utes in 2016 — quickly making a name for himself as a diamond from the rough as far as being an NFL draft prospect.

He instantly gets thrown into the competition at left tackle for the Denver Broncos heading into mini-camps, OTAs and training camp. He likely will compete straight up against Ty Sambrailo for the starting job, with veteran Donald Stephenson likely as the versatile depth guy along the entire line.

Here’s what the Broncos offensive line potentially looks like for 2017:

LT – Garett Bolles

LG – Ronald Leary

C – Matt Paradis

RG – Max Garcia

RT – Menelik Watson

Depth: Ty Sambrailo, Donald Stephenson, Michael Schofield, Connor McGovern, among others…

Denver could potentially add more to the line in tomorrow’s second and third rounds or Saturday’s rounds four through seven, as there has been talk they could be looking as some of the offensive guards in this years draft.

We’ll leave you with this highlight video of Garett Bolles:
