Jon Gray leaves with toe injury in Rockies 3-1 win vs Giants

Rockies’ ace Jon Gray was forced to leave in the fourth inning of Thursday night’s game in San Francisco, but Colorado held on to win 3-1 behind Trevor Story’s first HR of the season.

Rockies’ ace Jon Gray has left in the fourth inning of the Rockies game one in San Francisco with an apparent injury. The injury seems to have been to his toe or foot when he leaped for this chopper in the bottom of the 2nd inning:

It was later confirmed by the @RockiesPR Twitter account that it was indeed an aggravation of the same toe injury that Gray dealt with in spring training:

Colorado had just taken the a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning on a two-run Trevor Story homer, so it seemed that Gray had a great chance at a victory tonight. However he would have had to pitch five innings to be eligible for the win.

Chris Rusin came in and pitched a solid 3 1/3 innings by only allowing one run on two hits — he earned the victory, his first of the 2017 season.

The main three in the bullpen closed the door on the Giants in the end, and the Rockies held on to win 3-1. Greg Holland picked up his MLB leading sixth save of the season.
