The Colorado Rockies have placed right-handed relief pitcher Adam Ottavino on the 10-day disabled list with inflammation in his throwing shoulder.
Ottavino has been solid as the 8th inning guy for the Rockies all season, pitching 21 innings over 23 appearances — striking out 24. His WHIP of 1.429 is a bit out of whack, as he has walked 15 and allowed 15 hits in those 21 innings. Perhaps this time to rest his shoulder will be good for his mojo going forward. He sports a respectable 2.57 ERA on the year.
In a related move, the Rockies have recalled reliever Carlos Estevez from AAA Albuquerque. In the Majors this season, Estevez as made 14 appearances out of the bullpen for Colorado and has a 3-0 record with a 7.30 ERA; he has struck out 13 batters and allowed 15 hits and walked 5 over 12 1/13 innings pitched.
